When ‘Ride Italian’ gets more appealing than ‘French Kiss’
Hands down, this is the best Vespa print advertisment that I’ve seen so far. It is series of three ads made for Vespa San Francisco. I forgot where I first saw these images or what year these ads came out; I just know that I have to blog about it.

Sometimes, a company doesn’t really have to show the actual product to put a message across. VespaSF was pushing for a ‘lifestyle’ (or one might say, a ‘fantasy!’), which is something not tangible. Once seen, it looks like a pretty straightforward ad, though it has a subliminal message that’s right on target for its potential market. You don’t see the couple actually riding a Vespa. It left a lot for the reader’s imagination to run wild. Notice that they didn’t even show the models’ faces, like it’s saying: “this could be you!”

I also admire the use of the tagline “Ride Italian” which sounds innocent enough, but takes a whole new meaning when placed under these images. It suddenly sounded more sensual than ‘French Kiss‘ or even at par with the term ‘Mile High Club.’

Notice also how the three ads seem to escalate from sensual, to hot, then WILD! Well, that’s how I interpreted it, at least. I kinda remember the title of each ad is a single word named after the prominent bodypart featured in the photo. This last one in the series is called ‘Leg,’ if I remember correctly. This other two could be anything like ‘torso,’ ‘fingers,’ ‘cleavage,’ or ‘body.’
Ride Italian!
