Art Vespa: My Vespa got toasted!
No, PYKE is doing okay; it’s actually my blog and my logo which somehow got ‘heated’ and ‘burned.’ If that sounded ridiculous, then its probably because it really is!
Yournameontoast.com is a site that offers advertising spaces by having some text, doodle, logo or basically anything you want to see on your toast (as long as it’s not offensive!) which they will especially prepare for you. Sounds like a silly idea, is it? The people behind this website seems to feel that way too. But they also know that silly ideas usually get talked about over the ‘net. Look here, I’m blogging about it! And that’s not the end of it all; it gets worse…
I was actually crazy enough to pay and try it myself! hahaha! But it’s all good since the guys promise they are giving ALL the proceeds to a chosen charity. The cost for a toast was initially pegged at a minimum of $5 per order. As of this writing, the minimum is already $20. The higher a one pays for his toast, the higher it will be displayed on top of the page. If two toasts were ordered at the same price, then the one who placed an earlier order precedes the other.
The concept isn’t actually new. Alex Tew started it and got what he wanted (and more!) with his Million Dollar Homepage. But what I liked with yournameontoast.com is that the premise seems silly-er yet its potential profit goes to a good cause. Also, the use of toasts place all advertiser on equal footing since there’s not much one can do with a boring loaf of toasted bread so getting creative in what to put on the toast is the challenge. Besides, a page full of toasts definitely looks a lot less cluttered than one full of assorted graphic pixel ads of different colors and sizes competing to grab every visitor’s attention.
It was also a perfect excuse to finally be able to use my new PayPal account since their recent launch in the Philippines. I find it really more convenient to use compared to the tedious process of actually entering all my credit card info. I just hope that PayPal Philippines will soon expand what it currently offers in our country so more Filipinos can avail of its services. But I say it’s a good start and what we have now works fine by me.
Check out yournameontoast.com and see all the other crazy people who actually had their site toasted.
I got toasted!
