Ridin’ Spinners: Bling it on!
I have been fascinated with the spinners that I see on SUVs when they stop. But like the teddy bear mags and hologram tints of yesteryears, they are amusing to see on other car but never did I consider having them on mine. For those who aren’t familiar what spinners are, here’s a hip-hop music video of “Ridin’ Spinners.”
Nice, right? But I really can’t see myself riding in a car with those. It’s just not me. I still feel the same until now… but only as far as our car is concerned. When I found out that there are spinners available for Vespas, I suddenly gave in to the dark side. Here’s my saga how I got my Vespa spinner.
I first saw the Vespa Spinners being sold on Ebay. Problem was, spinners for 10 inch rims (the size of PX’s) was already out-of-stock and only 11″ spinners for the LX model are available. I emailed the seller and asked if he could modify one for a PX150. He immediately replied and said he can but he doesn’t have the necessary PX rim center cap to mount the hardware. The seller’s name is Layne. He’s actually a very cool and patient guy who addressed all my queries and problems involved with my single order. I only ordered one for my front wheel since he was honest enough and told me that most people order just one for the front as the rear is hardly visible. He promised he’ll try to find a replacement cap and would let me know in a few days.
His search turned out empty so the two remaining options were (1) to ship my center cap to have the spinner mounted on it; or (2) ship the spinner to me and give me instructions on how to put it together. I don’t want to spend added expense for shipping a part from my scoot but I don’t trust my ‘handyman’ capabilities either. In the end, I chose the first option. Then the waiting game began….
I mailed my cap January 23 and Layne received it by the 31st. He sent the assembly the same day and he estimated that it will reach me in 5 to 7 days; but of course, our postal system is not known for being THAT efficient so I expected to wait longer. By the time it reached me, it was already Feb. 22. For someone who wanted something so bad, that felt like months!
And now, here’s what the spinner looks like on PYKE. Special thanks to direkyey for taking this short clip with his phonecam.
I feel it does look nice on the scoot. The first time a few people saw it, I wasn’t so sure if they honestly liked it since the compliments never came with a straight face. It’s always with a grin or even a laugh! I’m now kinda use to it actually. I now know its an automatic reaction for such a contraption, especially on a scooter. It’s not even an accessory anymore, IT’S A BLING-BLING! hahaha!
So how much did it cost me? A total of $60. shipping included. Layne actually gave me a $5 off the shipping cost to cover my shipping of the center cap to him. Really cool guy. I got lucky that the our post office didn’t tax me with other charges except for the minimum P35.
For those who want to order from Layne (he’s based in Salt Lake City, Utah), I suggest you just take the second option as it is really easy to put it together just like he told me. This would essentially cut your waiting time. If you can’t wait pimp yo’ ride, then here’s a link to the Vespa Spinners on Ebay.
Just stop and spin it, baby!
