A Fil-Am band known as Julie Plug
If you haven’t heard of this US-based (San Francisco Bay Area), all-Filipino band before, maybe sharing their music video would be a better introduction of the kind of music that they make. This one is called video for “Blue Sky Propeler” which features a couple of mod-style, vintage scoots festooned with numerous headlamps. Listen to the song (it sounds more like Brit-pop more than American Top 40), and see if you can figure out the band’s musical influence.
Nice song, right? The track came from the band’s sophomore outing called Whatever You Wonder released in 2003. Their debut album, Starmaker
, came out in 1998. Contrary with what others may think, the band doesn’t have a member named Julie. The group is actually composed of Des de Leon-Nicolas (vocals); Jay Averilla (bass); Terry Nicolas (guitar); and Rob Uytingco (drums). They say their songs are a combination of 60′s pop, 70′s rock to 80′s new wave and 90′s britpop. Quite simply, that kind of musical hodge-podge is better known as: alternative.

At least four of their songs had been featured in various episodes of Dawson’s Creek. They consider The Sundays as one of their musical influences, inspiring them to start a female-fronted band back in 1992. Now, listen to one The Sundays’ hits and see if you can find similarities between the music style of these two bands.
