Vespa Spotting: Ben Sherman store in Manila!

August 2, 2007

Edmund gave me a heads up that Ben Sherman opened it’s first store in Manila at the 3/L of the Shangri-La Plaza. The brand’s presence in the country is courtesy of Juan Miguel Ongsiako — the same guy who brought the Paul Smith label here. Now, I’m not what you may call fashionable (I’m just a shirt-and-shorts kinda guy), but I know the brand name’s closely linked to the Mod lifestyle and there are a few guys in the local Vespa community who are into that.

The last time I was in Shang, I made sure I check out the place. From the outside, you could see a big Target logo in the store’s glass facade, the ‘red bullseye’ of which is the inconspicuous door handle.

From the outside, one could see the black Vespa ET on display. Once inside, Britishmania abound with the familiar Union Jack all over the place. See more images taken from the store.

Here’s the iconic image on display taken from the bygone Mod era

These furnishings look like the stuff you’d see in a rockstar’s mansion

Now that you have an idea how the store looks like, how about the stuff they sell? Well the apparels are nice though I’m not really into the retro/mod look. I simply bought a shirt with a simple Target logo and my wife frowned when she saw the price tag. The Ben Sherman boutique is a very expensive place indeed but still worth checking out for all Vespa enthusiasts.

Good to see! The Ben Sherman store here in NYC is just over one year old. They invited our club to attend their one year anniversary part at the store! Here are my pictures of the event:

    Hi John,

I was so happy to come across your blog and learn that Ben Sherman is now in Manila!

My fiance is a big fan. And his birthday is coming up soon. I hope he doesn’t find out until then, so I can surprise him. =)

    Thanks a lot.

Glad to be of help, Honey. From what I’ve heard another branch is to open in TriNoMa. Just haven’t been there again, lately.

I don’t make it to Manila often, but will be sure to stop by and see the HQ of one of my favorite brands there. Hopefully, this will inspire some fellow Pinoys living in the homelands to stop dressing like Eurotrash and mod up. ;)

Hey, thanks for dropping by, Alex! :)

Jon: I’ll visit the shops you mentioned. Ayos yung 900+ compared sa P2,000+ na shirt from Ben Sherman. hahaha!

Sana nga maka-kuha tayo ng sponsors for VA3. :)

That’s not a target logo. It’s a Royal Airforce roundel, a Mod symbol.
