Though I’ve committed in today’s Blog Action Day focusing on the topic of environment, I’ve decided not to take the serious and preachy route, but instead veer towards a more fun and and free-spirited mode.
But how can one reconcile in taking care of the environment and the leisures of riding a Vespa? Well this short music video will give you an idea as it entertains.
The guy who wrote and sang that catchy “Vespa Vespa” song is a Filipino and he’s our featured Rider for today. He’s the same guy who won $50,000 in last year’s Yahoo! Talent Show by submitting this home-made video which was even reported in ANC.
The YouTube music video posted above is an entry of his for another contest: the Go Green Vespa Video Challenge which is aimed to spread the Vespanomics message. This early, his entry looks like a strong contender. Let’s get to meet the guy behind the talent.
rider’s name: Rex Hermogino
also known as: Erlex, RexGT200
ride: Vespa GT200L
birthplace: Candelaria, Zambales
homebase: San Diego, CA (U.S.A.)
job: Art Director
more about the rider:Rex is currently a free agent in the scooter community in California who rides with other scooterists from the Pharaohs Scooter Club, the Secret Society, San Diego Scooterists and the Meetup Scooter Fanatics.
In his spare time, Rex works on his music and video, which have been globally recognized thanks to his recent Yahoo! Talent Show victory. He credits the support his kabayans, friends, families, and fans which made it all possible. You can see/hear more of Rex’s work by visiting his website: www.rexnfx.com.
The song “Vespa Vespa” was originally made for a background music for his first video entry to the Vespa Go GreenChallenge. Rex adds…
“It was so catchy that I had to continue and extend the track to a full length song. I wrote a couple of extra verses, went back into my home studio and got busy all afternoon. I picked Ska as the type which I thought couldn’t be more perfect for a scooter song. Ska music is widely recognized in the scooter community all around the world! Later, I shot the music video with the help of some friends. I’ve received tons of compliments and positive feedback from the music and the video which have been played back numerous times off of the Vespa Go Green Challenge website as well as other people’s blog pages and social networking sites. It’s becoming an anthem for any environmentally conscious Vespa rider, which strikes the perfect chord since the theme of “Vespa Vespa” is Vespanomics!”
If the song’s stuck in your head and you wanna hear it again, below is its MP3 and the full lyrics posted for your singing pleasure.

I
I used to hang out with the other strange people
As we sat and we waited at the stupid bus depot
For a bus that never comes
Never comes on time
II
So I got me a ride and I’m running so free
But it’s guzzling gas in my SUV
Gotta change my ways somehow
So look at me now
CHORUS
I ride a Vespa motorscooter around
Having fun in the sun as I scoot around town
Vespa, Vespa – the ride is phenomenal
Vespa, Vespa – very Vespanomical
Vespa, Vespa…
BRIDGE
If you want the world clean, then ya’ gotta go green
Gotta ride all the time, then you’ll know what I mean
Vespa, Vespa – the ride is phenomenal
Vespa, Vespa – very Vesponomical
Vespa, Vespa …
(repeat chorus)
CHORUS 2
If you ride a Vespa motorscooter around
You will save on gas as it moves your…
Vespa, Vespa…
Now, to support our kababayan, you may vote for his video entry on this page.
You will save on gas as it moves your… paraparapa!

Well well, it seems Rex is al over the place!
I already voted for his video. Looks fab doesn’t it?
Greetings from a rainy Belgium!
Lovely blog!
Greetz,
Kristof
This is what I think of Rex…
I am also competing in the GoGreen Video Challenge. I would love to win a Vespa
but I find myself rooting for Rex! This guy is so likeable and his video is so fun and positive you can’t help but support him. I voted him “5 vespas”.
Go Rex, Go Green!
Jim
Thanks for the kind words, Kristof.
Jim, good luck to your video entry as well.
Kristof, thank you so much! Glad you like my stuff. Thank you for your support! Btw, I’d like to travel one day and visit Belgium.
And Jim, wow, you’re here. Yes, everyone – Jim and I have become friends over the internet and I’d like to meet him one day. Even though we’re both competiting for the same rank, we’re both playing it cool about it, fair, and honest. Jim is a nice guy and a very talented individual too. You can see the professional quality in his video! Go Jim. Good luck to you!
John, thank you for this opportunity. Mabuhay!
UPDATE: Rex informed me that he had to take down his YouTube music video and requested that I take down the song’s MP3 in the meantime so that his entry won’t be disqualified. Best of luck, Rex!
Thanks John and Vespinoys! We did it! (Sorry, been busy with the holidays here in the U.S., plus my appearance at the IMS with Piaggio). Btw, I’m no longer a free-agent. Proud to be a Royal Bastard!
Congratulations, Rex! I wanted to post a separate blog entry about your winning but I was on the airport on the way to Bangkok when I got the news. Anyway, I put an update on top of this entry to announce this great news.
Congrats again, pare! The Vespinoys are proud of you!
Damn you Rex! You are your cursed song! I can’t get it out of my head…vespa vespa…blah blah blah…vespa vespa!
