Is it possible to mount a bicycle on a Vespa?
The last time I was into bicycles was back in the 80s during my pre-teen days on a BMX. Twenty five years hence, I got into biking again; only this time, it’s not on street bikes with my next door neighbors but on mountain bikes with some of my Vespa buddies. Gone biking with Bimbo and his family on a dirt track in Alabang one weekend and twice around UP Diliman Academic Oval with Yey.
To transport the bike for these biking sessions, I load it behind our SUV on a bike rack. If I’m ready to leave home, can’t just hop in to drive & go with all the strapping, fastening, and tying I have to do to make sure the bike is securely mounted. If only it was possible to mount the bike on a Vespa…
A quick search n the web and I found out it’s possible as done in these Stella scoots.

FEEDBACK: When I asked Shene’s permission if I could borrow his pics, he said: “Knowing that the rack works and hasn’t caused me to crash, makes me feel better showing it off.” That’s great!
Here’s another one with the bike mounted on the rear rack!

FEEDBACK: As Jason gave me his permission to use his pics, he noted that it’s imporatant to add these info. I’ll quote here what he said in his email:
After taking this thing on a longer trip, where speeds were higher (above 40mph), it’s incredibly unstable. About mid-way through the summer, I stopped using it entirely.
The main problem is mass centralization. By having the bike hang so far BEHIND the scooter, it creates a “teeter totter” effect, where the rear wheel of the scoot is the pivot point. It’s most noticeable in cross-winds, and when passing large trucks. Bursts of wind will catch the bike and really mess with the steering. In straight lines at low speeds, it’s not bad. But ANY turning is very awkward, and high speed is only recommended if you truly want to crash.
“
Thanks for the honest feedback, Jason. Really appreciate it.

Nice story John, I wonder if bike rack for motorcycle is currently available here in Manila. I scoot and i bike to work and a weekend warrior as well
Thanks, Caloy! Where do you bike? I think the rack is readily available here but the brace to attach the rack to the scoot needs to be fabricated pa.
I’ll ask around.
thanks, John. Nowadays, i usually go solo ride around SM mall of asia and around Manila, Baywalk, downtown Manila, Quiapo, sometimes Marikina riverbank, U.P.Diliman and the Fort or wherever my MTB takes me. I sometimes join Firefly brigade activities whenever i have the chance. Been busy lately i have’nt joined any Vespa activities as well. I acquired a 2nd hand vitto 3 mos ago.
‘ey Caloy! Hope to bump into you soon. Login ka lang sa Vespinoy or VCOP forums for tambays and rides.
pag gusto may paraan…galing!
Charlie, bigay mo sa akin yung multipy site na sinasabi mo.
Sad no one shows a Lambretta with a bike rack — that’d come in handy so you could ride the bike after the scooter breaks down.
How about carrying a guitar on a vespa?
I’ve seen a support motorcycle of the Philippine Cycling Road Team with a rack similar to the orange Stella. Nice to know that you’re biking. Padyak lang ng padyak! Oh yes any suggestions on how to carry golf clubs?
Hughganaught: I’ll post it here once I find a guitar mount for a Vespa.
Jojo: I heard from Yey that you used to bike to work before. Hope to ride with you again soon, be it on a mtb or a Vespa.
I’ll try to find again the pic of a golf bag mounted on a motorbike. I remember seeing one before.
