Topic Off-Vespa: “Someone Someday”
February 27, 2008Hope you would excuse this very personal blog entry. What prompted me to post this is the untimely demise of a good friend, Paulo Clemente. He is a colleague in the wedding industry who’s made a name for himself as a talented wedding singer. If you know him, I have written some other details about this very sad news in the W@W News Blog.
Anyway, a couple of years ago, I asked Paulo if he could sing the demo of a song I have written. Entitled “Someone Someday,” it served as a personal anthem when I was still in my early 20s at a stage in my life when I didn’t know what exactly I wanted to do. I had just graduated but couldn’t land in a job that I like. I somehow knew then that I’ll be able to achieve something but I just didn’t know how and when I’m gonna get there. Maybe I wrote it to cope when my self-worth was at it’s lowest. As a songwriter, I vowed then never to write sad songs, but only to write about things with a message of hope.
I’m finally posting it here in memory of Paulo, a friend who gave life to the song. Hear it here.
SOMEONE SOMEDAY
words & music: John Rana
vocals: Paulo Clemente
I
I saw my life’s direction when I start
Listenin’ to my heart
Only then I knew which road that I should take
II
And if during my travel
There will be some kind of trouble
I’ll just close my eyes, so I can see
What’s there that lies ahead of me
REFRAIN I
And I know someday
I’ll be someone I dream to be
I will break out of my shell
And show the best I’ve got in me
One day I’ll be standing out
I’ll rise and shine above the crowd
Just a stone throw away for me to be someone someday
III
Although some don’t have confidence in me
I should never worry
Someday I’ll prove them wrong and they will realize
IV
That they are mistaken
For now I’ll just keep on wishin’
Now I close my eyes, so I can see
That someday I will be somebody
REFRAIN II
‘Coz I know someday
I’ll be the one I ought to be
I’ll be soarining high up in the sky
‘Til all of them looks up on me
One day I’ll be standing out
I’ll rise and shine above the crowd
It’s just a dream today for me to be someone…
BRIDGE
Someday I’m bound to realize
When all my dreams come true
And I thank my God up in the heavens
For guiding me through
(repeat Refrain II except last line)
My dream’s not far a way
It’s just a breath away
It’s just a dream today
But I will be someone someday
I’ll be someone someday
I’ll be someone someday

Hang in there, Gela. Stay strong.
Glad you liked the song, Kling & Dave. Songwriting is something that I haven’t done I a while. Wish I had the time to write songs like before.
[...] to his daughter Angela and the rest of his Angel’s Wink family. In his loving memory, we posted here his rendition of an original composition (”Someone Someday”) that he willingly recorded for us gratis a couple of years ago. Your wonderful talent and [...]
I love your song, John. It is so honest in the message it conveys that it cuts deep yet it shows your resolve & passion to succeed in your own terms. Ikaw na ikaw ang nagsasalita, repa.
Your friend, Paolo, really gave your song the life and character that it deserves. Galing ng tandem nyo! It’s just sad that’s he’s no longer with us and I feel her daughter’s pain in her comment above.
I hope you continue writing songs and making music, John.
Thanks Mon! Di ko na pahahabain comment ko. Baka maiyak lang ako. hehehehe
