1. Get the Golden Ticket

Last week, the 20 Golden Tickets (admits 2 pax/tix) was sent to me for distribution to interested Vespa Club members.

This week, they texted me for to ask around for anyone who’s willing to lend their Vintage-looking (I suppose they meant PX or earlier models) and show-quality (any color) Vespa scooter.  It will be displayed at the House Party at Embassy on Feb. 27-28 from 10AM of Feb. 27 until 3AM of Feb.28 (17 hours total).  No monetary return, only bragging rights!  The owner of the scoot will also get the House Party pack (woven bag with a limited edition shirt, sticker and a golden ticket inside).  Email or text me if you’re interested. :)

2. Buy adidas Originals

Cumulative purchase entitles the customer a House Party Pack with the Golden Ticket as an invite to the grandest celebration of 60 YEARS OF SOLES AND STRIPES.  Invite is good for two persons.

3. Join the Vespa Design Contest

“Celebrate Originality” and customize your Vespa anyway you want.  If you think it already is of show quality, then join!

adidas X Vespa collection finally arrives in Manila!

January 14, 2009

Since October of last year, the local Vespa community has been abuzz of the impending arrival of the adidas X Vespa collection.

True to it’s promise of the collection’s availability around the world beginning January 2009 , word came out in this Vespinoy thread that the sneakers are already available in the Adidas Originals store in Trinoma.

When I was there two days ago for a meeting, I made it a point to visit the store to see the ‘new arrivals’ for myself.  Here’s what I’ve found.

These are the only four designs available so far.  The choices is not as varied as those shown here, but its a start.  Since the design of the black model at bottom is hardly visible, I took another pic up-close using my cam phone.  Here it is. Read the rest of this entry ?

Vietnam wears a helmet!

July 9, 2008

Vietnam is a motorcycle country. Two wheels (about 90%) greatly outnumber the cars on the road. But as seen in the images on my two previous Vietnam-related posts here, hardly anyone there wore a helmet on the road. Thankfully, that’s a thing of the past.

So how did the country get it’s more than 12 million riders to wear one? Well, it all started with this campaign.

The ads featured in campaign were made by Ogilvy and Mather Vietnam for Asia Injury Prevention Foundation. The campaign utilized actual motorbike accident victims.

On December 15, 2007, wearing a helmet became mandatory (Government Decree Number 32 – Mandatory Helmet Law) to all motorbike riders in Vietnam making it one of the world’s most successful public-health initiatives in years. My recent visit there is proof that indeed, everyone now wears a helmet there and not just in Ho Chi Minh but in the rural areas as well. Our tour guide said not everyone is happy with the new law but all are forced to comply than pay the fine of 200,000 dong or roughly about U$D12.

And since the “coolness” factor ranks high for most Vietnamese riders, some of their helmets (they used to jokingly refer to these protective headgears as “rice cooker”) don’t look like helmets at all! For a rider like me, Vietnam roads was practically an endless showroom of fancy helmets money could buy. There are ones that are shaped like baseball caps, cowboy hats, bowler, sola topee, and knitted beanies. There are colorful visors made of cloth attachable to a plain-looking helmets. At one time, I think I even saw a helmet that looks like the familiar Vietnamese straw hat (Nón lá ). You name it, they have it!

And since I myself fancy unique helmets, I bought some for myself. I even bought one for my daughter which is shaped like a ladybug. That one’s just too cute to pass up. See them here. Read the rest of this entry ?

Fashion Shoot: Biker Babe in Leather

December 21, 2007

First saw images from this biker chick shoot in Louie A./grillman’s camera a couple of months ago when we volunteered our Vespas in the Levi’s fashion show. The biker babe here is Marcella who was also one of the Brazillian models in the Levi’s show. The green Vespa GS used here is Louie’s while the vintage beemer is Manolo’s. These two guys are seriously into vintage rides and I got the pleasure of riding with them for the ‘butt-busting’ North Luzon Loop.

Vespa Spotting: Ben Sherman store in Manila!

August 2, 2007

Edmund gave me a heads up that Ben Sherman opened it’s first store in Manila at the 3/L of the Shangri-La Plaza. The brand’s presence in the country is courtesy of Juan Miguel Ongsiako — the same guy who brought the Paul Smith label here. Now, I’m not what you may call fashionable (I’m just a shirt-and-shorts kinda guy), but I know the brand name’s closely linked to the Mod lifestyle and there are a few guys in the local Vespa community who are into that.

The last time I was in Shang, I made sure I check out the place. From the outside, you could see a big Target logo in the store’s glass facade, the ‘red bullseye’ of which is the inconspicuous door handle.

bensherman-store3.jpg

From the outside, one could see the black Vespa ET on display. Once inside, Britishmania abound with the familiar Union Jack all over the place. See more images taken from the store. Read the rest of this entry ?
