February 11, 2009

addidas-houseparty-goldentix1

1. Get the Golden Ticket

Last week, the 20 Golden Tickets (admits 2 pax/tix) was sent to me for distribution to interested Vespa Club members.

This week, they texted me for to ask around for anyone who’s willing to lend their Vintage-looking (I suppose they meant PX or earlier models) and show-quality (any color) Vespa scooter.  It will be displayed at the House Party at Embassy on Feb. 27-28 from 10AM of Feb. 27 until 3AM of Feb.28 (17 hours total).  No monetary return, only bragging rights!  The owner of the scoot will also get the House Party pack (woven bag with a limited edition shirt, sticker and a golden ticket inside).  Email or text me if you’re interested. :)

2. Buy adidas Originals

Cumulative purchase entitles the customer a House Party Pack with the Golden Ticket as an invite to the grandest celebration of 60 YEARS OF SOLES AND STRIPES.  Invite is good for two persons.

3. Join the Vespa Design Contest

“Celebrate Originality” and customize your Vespa anyway you want.  If you think it already is of show quality, then join!

Aside for the free pass during the House Party, here’s what the winners will get:

  • 1st Prize – Php 16,500 adidas Originals voucher + entry to the Area Grand Finals
  • 2nd Prize – Php 9,900 adidas Originals voucher
  • 3rd Prize – Php 6,600 adidas Originals voucher

Area Grand Finals is the next and final level participated in by the Vespa Design Contest 1st Prize winners from these participating countries:  Singapore, Malaysia, Thailand, Indonesia and the Philippines.

  • Area Grand Prize – 3 days / 2 nights Trip for 2 to Italy (the Vespa motherland!)

42 human riders and a daschund!

January 16, 2009

As Vespa Club’s very first ride for 2009, the new officers organized and open breakfast ride to Sierra Madre via the Marilaque twisties.  It’s a short out-of-town ride scheduled on the first weekend after the first workweek of the new year.  We were actually expecting a turnout of 20+ riders based on those who signed up in the forum.  And boy, we were sooo wrong!

I’ve joined several Vespa rides to Sierra Madre in the past, but last weekend’s turnout was the biggest I’ve joined so far. Forty two riders showed up and that’s not counting the dog who tagged along with its master and sat comfortably on the scooter’s floorboard during the ride.  Here’s our group shot.

sierramadre09-1Can you spot the doggie? :D

Aside from our club members, Vespa groups from Makati, Binondo, Angono and Las Pinas also joined us that chilly morning.  Some even jokingly dubbed the ride as Vespa Attack 4.1 with the number of scoots that time.  The club treated everyone for a free breakfast and coffee!  What a great way to start the new riding year!

You may view the numerous pictures taken that day posted in the following albums: Read the rest of this entry ?

adidas X Vespa collection finally arrives in Manila!

January 14, 2009

Since October of last year, the local Vespa community has been abuzz of the impending arrival of the adidas X Vespa collection.

True to it’s promise of the collection’s availability around the world beginning January 2009 , word came out in this Vespinoy thread that the sneakers are already available in the Adidas Originals store in Trinoma.

When I was there two days ago for a meeting, I made it a point to visit the store to see the ‘new arrivals’ for myself.  Here’s what I’ve found.

These are the only four designs available so far.  The choices is not as varied as those shown here, but its a start.  Since the design of the black model at bottom is hardly visible, I took another pic up-close using my cam phone.  Here it is. Read the rest of this entry ?

The Road to the Finish Line

January 9, 2009

corinne1

Corinne Burgos is one of the very few local female Vespa riders. Just last weekend, she participated in the 1st Petron Econo-Endurance Run — a motorcycling event mounted to determine two things; [1] the most economical 4-stoke motorcycles available in the Philippines and, [2] the best endurance riders in the country.

The event, which is in line with the governments Department of Energy move to conserve energy and promote the clean air act, had its participants ride the distance of 1,000 kms. The route will start in Manila and end in Baguio City via Nueva Vizcaya, Cagayan, Ilocos, & La Union province.  A fellow Vespa Club member — Joseph Santos — also joined the run but as an unofficial participant since he rode his 2-stroke Piaggio Skipper.

Support from the local Vespa community were felt by the two participating Piaggio riders; from the send-off in Manila, to the mandatory stop in Ilocos, upto the finish line in Baguio. Truly, the Vespistis showed up in vital points during the run for practically a Meet & Greet and photo ops with Team Vespa. :)

Below is Corinne’s re-telling of her most tiring and rewarding motorcycling experience as of yet. Read the rest of this entry ?

Topic Off-Vespa: E3 means Electric Tricycle!

December 28, 2008

e3-tricycleHere in the Philippines, a tricycle is a mini-taxi / public utility vehicle (PUV) assembled with a motorcycle and a roofed, all-steel sidecar. But like our iconic jeepney, there are mounting concerns about it’s environmental and economic viability considering the constantly rising fuel prices, toxic emissions,  and the overall livelihood sustainability of the drivers and operators.  Local government started addressing the problem last year when Electric Jeepneys started plying Makati roads.  Recently, Taguig City joined in when it started to roll-out electric tricycles!  COOL! 8)

These electric trikes  (E3 for short)  are supplied by Electric Vehicle Solutions Inc. (EVSI), a company specializing in eco-friendly, viable, and sustainable electric vehicles for a variety of purposes.  When used as public transport conveyances, the power requirement for our vehicles is minimal compared to the exorbitant use of fuels by vehicles currently in use. The minimal power cost ensures that PUV drivers earn more, giving them a chance for a better life.

Among the other products they offer are the electric scooter/motorbikes and electric bicycles.  For the E3s, the came up with five models/prototypes.  There’s even a detailed FAQ about the E3.

To know more about this new electric transport, here are a couple of articles:

as my term as Vespa Club prexy ends…

December 15, 2008

Last Saturday, we at the Vespa Club of the Philippines had our annual Christmas Party and Election of Officers.  Officially, that was the last day of my tenure as President of the club.

To say that I’ve waited for that day was an understatement.  But please don’t get me wrong.  A year of serving the club is both challenging and rewarding.  I’m mighty glad I was given a chance to spearhead our two year old scooter club.  But I think one year is enough for me and it’s time pass the leadership to another equally-able comrade in the club.

I guess it’s safe to say that 2008 has been a good year for our Vespa Club.  I was truly lucky that I had the full support of the rest of my officers (shoutouts to Mon, Mario, Dax, Adrian & Zaldy!).  As a token of  my appreciation to them for standing by me throughout 2008 to bring the club forward. I handed each of the a mini-Vespa USB/thumbdrive during the Christmas Party.

Wifey ordered it for me through Clay Creations. Special thanks to Aileen for always accommodating our orders. The USB plug is hidden under the head like this.

I submitted the pictures of the Vespa boys so their USB mini-me’s would sorta look like them.  Since the scoots of Mon & Dax are two-tone, I also submitted pics of their scoots as well.

The rear bears the name of each recipient. :)

But I digressed so back to last Saturday’s activity.  Like I said, we had our election of officers.  Here’s a list of the 2009 Servant/Leaders of Vespa Club of the Philippines. Read the rest of this entry ?

scenes from ground zero: Vespa Attack 4 (Bombshell)

December 3, 2008

Bryan Bedell of 2stokeBuzz.com gave a shoutout: “Have fun, I promise I’ll be there someday!” Meanwhile, Orin O’Neill of Scootin ‘Old School added it as one of the “items on my list of things to do before i die.”

Exactly what are they talking about?  They are referring to the VESPA ATTACK, baby!

Now on it’s fourth incarnation, the rally is attracting interest not just with fellow Vespa enthusiasts within the Philippines, but from outside the country as well.  Proof that the Vespa scene in the country is alive and kickin’!

Here are some images I’ve snitched from Bob ‘Minggoy’ Fortuno, (read his VA4 account here) a fellow Vespa Club member and a very good photo enthusiast.  All the following images were taken by him except when indicated. :)
